The bay is famous for visits by endangered marine megafauna including whale sharks, great white sharks, hammerhead sharks, blacktip sharks, manta rays, orange-spotted groupers, potato cods, critically endangered leatherback turtles, loggerhead sea turtles, and even coelacanths, the 'living fossil' appear.
The Aliwal Shoal is a rocky reef which is the remains of an ancient sand dune approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 mi) off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Shoal is known especially for its abundance of Grey nurse sharks (known as "raggies") between July and November when the sharks congregate there to mate.
Parque de Malongane where we tend to stay offers 24 dive reefs, which range from idyllic 8m, to extreme deep blue 40m dives. The closest reef is only 300m offshore, whilst the distance to the furthest is about 7 Km’s.
